I got this DM on Instagram..

“How do I get clients for shoots? I’ve tried meeting them at car meets but is there another way?”

Prefer to watch rather than read?

I got this question in my DMs the other day.

Car meets are fine, you might meet a few people..

But most of the time you’re surrounded by other photographers and car owners who want free photos, not paying clients.

So here’s what I’d do instead:

Shift your thinking away from car owners and focus on businesses that can use your photos to make money.

Start local.
Make a list of every automotive business in your area.
Detailers. Mechanics. Dealerships. Tuners. Retail stores. Wheel shops. Anyone who sells or services something car related.

Check out their website and socials.

If the content is lacking, ask yourself: What kind of visuals would actually help them grow?

If they’re service based, maybe it’s behind the scenes photos.
If they sell products, maybe it’s styled shots of their products being used or the product listings themselves.
If they sell cars, maybe it’s better listing photos.

Think about what they need.
Put together a simple, tailored package that solves a problem and pitch it to them.

When a business sees your photos as a tool to make money, you’ll never run out of work.

And I promise you 99% of photographers aren’t thinking like this.
They’re chasing supercar owners at car meets or sliding into DMs just trying to shoot for free (in hopes someone will pay lol).

Skip all that. Get paid instead.

Talk soon,
Mitch

P.s If you have any questions about automotive photography or the business behind it, reply to this email and I'll answer in a future newsletter!
